Bachelor of Science in Mathematics

A Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics is an undergraduate degree that provides theory and training in both applied and core mathematics. It focuses on the analysis of quantities, and language. A BS in Mathematics provides broad knowledge of mathematics topics with depth in certain areas such as algebra, calculus, functional analysis, geometry, number theory, logic, topology and other mathematical specializations while gaining a depth of expertise in certain areas.

The BS Mathematics curriculum emphasizes computing and mathematical modeling because these two areas give our students a competitive advantage when beginning to tailor their careers and academic goals.

The BS in Mathematics requires a series of courses that emphasize computing and acquaint students with widely used software packages like Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Mathematics students often minor in fields related to math, such as computer science, economics and finance and other math laboratories. Through this, students have greater opportunities in the job market.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  1. To be able to provide opportunity for students with interest in Mathematics to pursue a degree in the fields of in Mathematics
  2. To provide the program the opportunity to grow into a full blown course by producing graduates in the field of
  3. To increase the program tha offerings of the College of Science in sciences and mathematics to provide a wide selection of course offerings for incoming freshmen, shifters, and transferees.
  4. To be able for the college to offer other programs of specialization with the BS Mathematics as the core program in keeping wit the demands of industry ,business ,IT and other fields where the core language is mathematics.

Graduates of the BS Mathematics program are expected to:

  1. Be Equipped with logical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  2. Articulate the latest developments in their specific field of practice.
  3. Developed deeper appreciation and understanding of the importance of mathematics.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to comprehend, assess, communicate ideas effectively and digest new information and concepts independently.
  5. Work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
  6. Demonstrate professional, social and ethical responsibility especially in practicing intellectual property rights and sustainable development.
  7. Demonstrate the extension and appreciation of the skills and knowledge acquired during their communication studies in their careers beyond the university or in the continuation of their education.
  8. Exhibit the ability to do research or perform jobs that require analytical thinking and quantitative skills.

Math majors can pursue careers in diverse professional arenas, including: Actuaries, mathematician and Statistician, Financial Analyst and Secondary/ Tertiary Teachers. Some positions require advanced degrees, but bachelor’s-trained math professionals also enjoy a variety of professional options.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

Being a partner of Don Florencio Elementary School in supporting its students, the College of Science conducted a Gratitude Day on December 13, 2018. School and office supplies were provided to the student beneficiaries and Medical Mission for the residents of Brgy. San Luis.  

The College of Science aims to produce a fully functioning and excellence graduates who can perform the competencies under each of the Key Areas of Responsibility. To achieve the college goals and objectives, a Faculty Development Program is a critical factor towards building a strong foundation in the execution of the program to ensure quality education. The quality of education depends largely on the qualifications and competencies of the faculty, thus regular meeting, seminar-workshop, and evaluation is being conducted in the college and university level.
