OUR IMPETUS TO INTERNATIONALIZATION
Internationalization has now become the watchword among higher educational institutions worldwide. It has pervaded the thinking and actions of innovative and progressive instructional leaders who have always been passionate about holistic student development and experiential learning in a highly multicultural and diverse world .
We are driven to internationalize higher education by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal on Quality Education which seeks to ensure that “by 2030, all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development”.
The acceleration of human capital development, as embedded in the document Ambisyon Natin 2040 and the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022, calls on the education sector to produce high quality graduates and improve the competencies of the workforce necessitating the need for higher education institutions (HEIs) to respond to international challenges and developments in line with promoting the country’s regional and global competitiveness.
Along these lines, the Commission on Higher Education - International Affairs Staff (CHED-IAS) has taken the lead in the internationalization of the Philippine higher education sector through the formulation of the CHED-IAS Internationalization Roadmap consistent with CMO 55, s. 2016 Policy Framework and Strategies in the Internationalization of Philippine Higher Education, the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2020, and Goal 4 on Quality Education of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Tarlac State University rises to the challenge of internationalizing its learning environment to effectively deliver a holistic global learning and development and to better prepare its students into becoming global citizens with full understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity.
This necessitates the establishment of international linkages and wider community engagement for more productive learning, knowledge exchange, research and innovation to best exploit the opportunities and respond to the calls of expanding global markets for goods and services.
Thus, the new role of Tarlac State University is to foster a unique kind of learning environment that will best provide our students, on and away from campus, with the much-needed sociocultural experiences to turn out graduates with global perspectives and multicultural competence.
